Scanning in Scotland – Attendance Abdominal Ultrasound Course, general level

VetArtis is bringing practical ultrasound training to the heart of Scotland, with the first course in the Autumn of 2025! I’ve already had a fantastic response to the suggestion of a course in Scotland – places on the course are strictly limited and on a first come, first served basis, so don’t delay and contact me today sarah@vetartis.co.uk

Do you want to be ultrasound empowered? Are you ready to start your ultrasound journey? Or perhaps you have been using ultrasound for a time but feel a lack of confidence or approach to an ultrasound scan and recognise it’s time to consolidate your skills. This 2-day engaging and comprehensive course on small animal abdominal ultrasound is designed to cover the theory and practical aspects to get you going and moving on your ultrasound journey, for those that have none to some ultrasound experience or those that have more experience but are not feeling confident in their technique, approach, or how to apply their findings to clinical cases.

Join me, Sarah Keir – I love teaching and many of my tutees/coachees remark at how this enthusiasm comes across in my teaching. I want people to have this ultrasound superpower! I also enjoy finding novel ways of teaching and for people to learn as I have been to so many training courses that are dull and all the same. Expect this course to be different, using games, phantoms, and mixed reality simulators, and I pass on many practical tips so that attendees can use their skills immediately to help pets. Learn what you need to know to be useful immediately after the course with plenty of practical applications throughout so you can use the knowledge right away and build your confidence in recommending an ultrasound scan. Have a read at some of the feedback and testimonials I have received for my teaching.

  • 2 day attendance abdominal ultrasound course for beginners and improvers.
  • Thursday 30th and Friday 31st October 2025, 9:30-5:30 each day.
  • Online theory preparatory course access for each participant, hosted on Teachable platform. This provides more than 6 additional hours of theory and fundamentals on the use of ultrasound, with exercises and cases to work through. This is valued at over £300 per person. By putting some of the foundational theory in an online course, there is more practical scanning time on the attendance days.
  • Location – The Stirling Court Hotel, University of Stirling. An easy access venue with a wide choice of accommodation in the area, including dog-friendly accommodation available at the venue.
  • Small group (maximum 9 people) split into groups of 3 for practical sessions – these groups are much smaller than courses with other ultrasound training companies. Groups will be kept small and intimate on purpose to ensure you get plenty of scanning time, lots of time with the tutor and opportunities to ask any questions you may have.
  • Lots of practical time including some great games and fun. Lots of probe time with live dogs, use of phantoms and other learning aids such as games. Practical training on ultrasound-guided sampling with the use of various phantoms.
  • Lunch and refreshments provided.
  • Included is one Veterinary Ultrasound Pocket Guide Abdominal edition, plastic card version and set of posters of the Systematic Abdominal Scanning Protocol, per delegate.
  • What will this course cover
    • Confidence in US and how to get better over time
    • How to drive an ultrasound machine
    • Image formation and artefacts – why it is not always the truth
    • POCUS for the abdomen, recognise fluid, gas and mineral
    • Approach to structured abdominal scan and the many facets of this
    • Main abdominal organs – how to scan, normal and diseased appearance
    • Learn ultrasound-guided cystocentesis and FNAs
  • All course attendees are invited to join a closed WhatsApp group, designed to support learners after course completion. I know how challenging and daunting it can be to carry out ultrasound scans with confidence once the course is over and you’re back in the clinic. Learning shouldn’t end when the course ends!
  • Price only £1000+VAT
  • Bring a dog suitable for scanning and receive a £100 discount on the course. There will be access to some provided dogs, but practical time may be limited unless delegates can bring suitable dogs.

If you are interested, then please contact me at sarah@vetartis.co.uk. I am also happy to set up a Zoom meeting. I can answer any questions you may have about the course and when you are ready to book, send you the details of how to pay. Places on the course are strictly limited and on a first come, first served basis and your place is confirmed once paid for.
